Middle School Math/Science Teacher 

 

Position Overview


Coastal Sage is looking for an enthusiastic, passionate educator who loves learning and can share their knowledge and enthusiasm with a small group of 12–14 year-old students. 

 

About CSM


Coastal Sage exists to educate the whole child: intellectually, physically, emotionally and spiritually. We are a Christian Montessori school located in Carlsbad, California just a few miles from the beautiful Pacific Ocean. We are in the process of developing a Montessori middle school program, which is an exciting opportunity to provide a unique and personalized learning experience. The middle school has a project-based curriculum: Classroom subjects are explored in an integrated manner, where students grapple with real-world issues while honing their skills in math, economics, science, humanities, language and writing. 

 

Requirements


  • Teacher with a passion for Christ who is able to engage students in a biblical worldview, while creating an academically challenging classroom experience. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education with a preferred emphasis in Secondary Education. 
  • A willingness to learn about the Montessori philosophy and obtain the AMI Montessori Adolescent Diploma. 

 

Preferred Qualifications and Attributes


  • Multi-Subject teaching credential 
  • Preferred candidate is athletic, adventurous and enjoys exploring the great outdoors in conjunction with educational lessons. 
  • Can think outside the walls of a classroom for learning extensions. 
  • Implement Socratic Method for critical thinking and helping students grapple with real world issues and appreciate multiple perspectives. 

 

Job Description 


  • Core classes to be taught are: Math and Science. 
  • Create weekly and long-range lesson plans, while assessing students regularly. 
  • Create microeconomic opportunities with local professionals: This will create hands-on learning opportunities for our students to further understand what they are learning in the classroom applies to the real world. Examples could include: bee keeping, paper making, welding, baking, etc... 
  • Implement Socratic method of Q&A to supports critical thinking and discussion.
  • Teacher will guide students to develop and run their own real business, marketing and selling products that they manufacture themselves. Supporting lessons are given on the scientific, historical, economic, practical and organizational aspects of their products. Student work includes bookkeeping,  budgeting and purchasing, design, advertising, surveys, research, the writing of proposals, interviews of experts, and documentation. 

 

Starting Salary


$65,000
