Primary Assistant

Position: Classroom Assistant – Montessori Primary Program
Schedule: Full-Time | Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM–3:30 PM
Pay: $22.00 per hour
Location: Carlsbad, CA 92008

Position Overview

Coastal Sage Montessori is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Classroom Assistant to join our Primary Program team. Working with children ages 3–6, the Assistant supports the Lead Guide by helping maintain a calm, prepared environment that allows uninterrupted instruction and meaningful learning.

The ideal candidate deeply respects children, works collaboratively, demonstrates initiative, and approaches each day with a calm, “whatever it takes” mindset. This role is well-suited for someone who values structure, consistency, and purposeful work within a Montessori environment.

 


Required Qualifications

  • Ability to work calmly, effectively, and cooperatively with others
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • ECE 6 units or willingness to complete required coursework
  • Experience working with children ages 3–6
  • Current or willingness to obtain:
  • Red Cross First Aid & CPR certification
  • Local criminal background clearance
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Basic computer skills
  • Passion for Montessori philosophy and pedagogy
  • Ability to adapt to the evolving needs of children and the school environment
  • Strong classroom management rooted in positive, proactive reinforcement
  • Ability to support students of varying abilities
  • Montessori Assistant training (preferred, not required)

 


Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain the care and organization of the classroom, materials, and outdoor environment
  • Prepare, organize, and clean classroom materials and supplies
  • Support the Lead Teacher with classroom activities and special projects
  • Create classroom materials as needed
  • Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to assume responsibilities appropriate to the role
